Independent coffee shop Shoreditch Grind has been serving up speciality coffee with a shot of ‘cool’ for one year today. Brainchild of Aussie singer/ DJ Kaz James and his business partner David Abrahamovitch, this place provides a quirky alternative to the local coffee shop chains in Old street.
In just one year the café has already become a trendy landmark on the otherwise drab looking Old Street roundabout; the circular black building called ‘The Roundhouse’ features an American cinema-style sign which displays witty slogans for passers by to chuckle at. Inside, Shoreditch Grind pays homage to the Shoreditch aesthetic: exposed brickwork and natural materials are thematic and the large 180º window encourages great people watching opportunities! There are also plans to develop the first floor into a recording studio cementing itself as a key destination for music and coffee fans alike.
Indeed, as its name suggests Shoreditch Grind certainly associates itself with the fashionable East London culture despite being situated in the heart of corporate Tech City. George Wise, associate director at Richard Susskind & Company comments “As you walk out of Old Street station you are immediately struck by Shoreditch Grind, it is a fantastic addition to the busy roundabout and brings Shoreditch-cool a bit further into the City Fringe. Congratulations on reaching your first birthday”.
